Natural Disaster's Hidden Costs
May 9, 2011
When Tornados,
Floods or Hurricanes occur; pets, horses and other animals can be separated from
their owners and families by miles and for extended
periods of time. Pets can be adopted out during the separation in an attempt to
help the wondering animal. So when the original owner tries to reclaim their
family member – ownership may have to be proven on the spot
to
get your family member back. Same thing may occur for horses and other animals.
For these reasons, MobiPetTags has announced an additional “Pet
ID Photo” option for MobiPetTags customers, where they can keep up to 10
photos of personal pet photos specifically taken for identification purposes.
All of the photos are available in seconds from our customer’s "Pet
Information Page”. Thus if you are ever separated from your companion by
events beyond your control you will always have at your finger tips the proof
you will need to get your companion back with your family.

Ironic!
The fear associated with losing your best friend can be overwhelming and when it happens to you, overwhelming is an understatement. And if your job is protecting pets then it can be down right embarrassing!

Pet Tag Manufacturer Loses Pet
We live in a rural section of Ohio where all the home owners have at
least 2 acres and a lot of them have 20 acres or more – mostly wooded with
lots of deer and rabbits.
This morning my wife let our dogs and cats (Leon a Corgi, Sadie a
Border-Collie and two cats-Samson and Moogle) out early to go to the
bathroom – it was still dark and raining pretty hard. After a few minutes
Leon and the cats came back in but Sadie was gone into the dark. That is not
uncommon and we never worry because Sadie always comes back immediately when
we whistle. Even if she is chasing a deer, she always responds to the
whistle.
However, this morning with the rain, I guess she could not hear my
wife. So she came and got me and I went out into the dark and rain with a
weak flashlight and whistle until I couldn’t whistle any more all without
any results. So I came in and changed my cloths, put on my boots, got a
better flashlight and went back out into the dark rainy woods.
While searching our woods and the adjacent neighbor’s woods I kept
thinking how ironic this situation is, because we own MobiPetTag Systems,
and we make wireless pet ID tags exactly for these situations (when your pet
un-expectantly runs away) and here I’m looking for my own lost dog after she
took off.
Even as I was yelling and whistling for Sadie, I kept thinking about how happy I was that she was wearing not only one of our laminated tags but I had put and additional sterling silver tag on her, both with her wireless codes. I also remember thinking that this will make a great marketing story of re-unification using our tags. But then I realized my real feelings about the worry associated with losing a family member and not knowing what has happened to them and wanted to have Sadie back safely and the heck with the marketing idea. My mind kept worrying about if she was injured running through the dark woods or was she stolen, eaten by a coyote or bear or laying in the street after being struck by a car.
After a while without any luck, I decided to put together posters and
initiate the phone calls to neighbors, rescue groups, pounds, vets, clinics,
facebook lists, twitter and all the other services MobiPetTags offer and
thinking I’m glad I am in the business I’m in because I know how to do this
– but I’m not supposed to do it for me.
Once back to the house and before starting the hard work of calling
everyone I thought I would try driving around the general area checking the
roads and fields and then if I didn’t find her I would start the
notification routine.
On my second trip around the area, there she was standing alongside
the road in a pouring rain in a daze looking completely lost – only a block
away on the other side of the woods. I stopped the car in the middle of the
road got out and started calling her. She took a while to finally realize
who I was but then ran like crazy wagging her tail frantically and jumping
into the car.
I had escaped my worst fears and had my Sadie back, but I was still grateful that she had her tags with her when she took off, because I knew there were 167 million searchers out there that would have helped me.
So, the lesson here is always keep you family member tags up to date
and on them at all times, because you never know when the un expected event
will occur. – Thank God I did.
